There's a reason this place is called Town Hero Subs. And it's not just a name.
On a Monday in January 2025, I was riding my golf cart through the Wilton Trails neighborhood in Lake Worth. It was a regular afternoon โ until I saw smoke pouring out of a house.
A Lithium-Ion Battery. A Vape Pen. And a House on Fire.
The fire had started when a lithium-ion battery in a vape pen burst into flames inside the home. By the time I saw it, the back of the house was fully engulfed.
I didn't think. I just ran.
I found a potted plant near the back of the property. The owners had a pool. I started scooping water and throwing it on the flames as fast as I could โ over and over โ until Palm Beach County firefighters arrived and took over.
"His quick action literally saved my home and my tenant's dog and all of their stuff. Just a couple more minutes, probably the whole house would've probably been engulfed in flames."

That Same Week: Grand Opening
Here's the part that still gets me. That same week, Town Hero Subs was having its grand opening in Lantana.
After the fire, I looked up the family's GoFundMe. No insurance. Real damage. Real hardship. And I thought โ what better way to open a place called Town Hero than to actually be one?
On Saturday, grand opening day, we donated 50% of all proceeds to Kayla Ogilbee and her tenants to help them rebuild.
"When he called me and told me what he was planning on doing I just broke down. God works in mysterious ways."

Why WPTV Came Out
WPTV News Channel 5 โ the NBC affiliate for West Palm Beach โ covered the story. Reporter Khalil McLean was there. The headline: "Lake Worth 'town hero' holding fundraiser for victims of lithium-ion battery home fire."
We weren't expecting the coverage. We were just doing what felt right.

It's not a brand line. It's not a tagline picked from a marketing deck.
A town hero isn't someone with a cape. It's your neighbor. The person who shows up. The one who acts when everyone else is standing still. That's the culture we're building โ inside these four walls, and out in the community.
Every sub we make is fresh. Every customer who walks in is treated like family. And every dollar we earn is a chance to give something back to Palm Beach County.
That's what we mean when we say Town Hero.
